I feel kind of like Frosty the Snow Man right after they put the silk hat on his head. Today is the birth of my blog and I am not sure how I feel about it. Do I really want to have a place where I write what is on my mind and the entire world will read it? That is a scary thought. Well, to comfort myself, I keep saying that no one except my wife will read this blog. She hears all of my ramblings anyway so she won’t be surprised or critical of what I write. It is old hat to her. Maybe even an old silk hat.
In some twisted way, this venture reminds me of when Jesus sent his disciples out to preach the gospel. I can image the fearful confidence they must have felt leaving the guidance of the master to tell people the kingdom of God is near. The disciples knew that Jesus taught was true and saw the miracles he has performed. They even heard Him say they were to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons. But to all of the sudden be out there, but have been scary. The disciples could do all that Jesus had said, but how would the people respond? Would they be considered totally crazy? Would they be beaten? What would happen? They did have one thing (outside of the direct word of the Messiah) that they could rely on. In Mathew 10:12 – 13, Jesus said “When you go into a household, greet it. If the household is worth, let your PEACE come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.” Funny thing about peace, when you have it, not much else matters.
So I leave my peace at the door step of this blog. If it is worthy, I will continue to write. If not, well – no harm, no foul.
Wait! Can you really compare starting to blog to Jesus sending his disciples out to preach? Is that allowed? Is it even in the same ball park or city or continent? I have no idea and since this is my rantings, I get to make those twisted leaps.
So, Happy birthday blog. May you never run out of word.
